It is with immense pride and gratitude that I address you today, reflecting on a journey that spans over five decades. As a cardiothoracic surgeon, my life’s work has been dedicated to the field of cardiology and the well-being of my fellow human beings. From my early days as a medical student at Khyber Medical College to my time as a registrar in cardiothoracic surgery at the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust in London, and later, my tenure at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Karachi, my passion for saving lives and advancing cardiac care has been my driving force.

My return to Peshawar, my birthplace, was a turning point. It marked the realization of a lifelong dream, a dream to give back to the land where I first took my breath and to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The establishment of the Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) stands as a testament to this commitment. RMI, a state-of-the-art hospital and educational institution, is a beacon of hope and healing for this region, offering world-class medical care, education, and research.

In my 50-year career, I have witnessed the incredible progress in the field of cardiology, and I’ve been privileged to be a part of that journey. From complex cardiac surgeries to advancing the treatment of congenital heart diseases and valvular heart conditions, every moment has been a chance to make a difference in the lives of countless individuals. This work has been a source of immense fulfillment and has allowed me to serve not only Pakistan but also the people of Afghanistan, providing them with access to international standards of medical and healthcare facilities.
